How to get started in Voiceovers

Well, I am still exploring this question myself. I found a very interesting perspective on this question here at Dave Houston's Blog. Eventually, when I am rich and famous, I will compose an amazingly pithy and interesting answer to this question myself. In the meantime, I will share the resources I find with you so we can learn together!

A Fantastic Resource for VO People.

I can't remember where I found this board but it is fantastic. The site is http://www.vo-bb.com The archives are chock full of information that will defininitely be helpful for anyone interested in the art of voiceover. I've spent a good week pouring through the archives before I even registered for the site! The people on this board know their stuff and are funny and friendly and love to share their extensive knowledge. I hope you find it as useful and interesting as I have.

What's in a name?

When I initially thought about making money on the internet, I thought I'd start an eBay business. Right away, I figured I'd buy a domain and set up a website to promote the business. I wanted to name the site something that would be cool yet could be an actual business name. I settled on SereniteBiz in honor of my granddaughter Serenity, and what I intended the site to be, an eBusiness.

The eBay thing cooled off.

When I embarked on my voiceover career. Rather than think up a cool new name for my Voice Acting website, I just recycled SereniteBiz.com. Well, the site has been up for a while and it has been duly crawled by various bots and such. I am actually in the #1 position in Google if someone searches for Bilingual Voiceover Actor!

As is the usual course of things, my SereniteBiz domain name came up for renewal. I started thinking that perhaps I should buy a domain that actually sounds like it has something to do with Voiceovers and Acting, thus the birth of voiceoverthespian.com. I just bought the domain today and I want to spruce up the old site before I actually launch it. I am hoping that it will be far more successful than serenitebiz.com and hopefully, this blog will help too.

My Story

Let me tell you a bit about myself. I was born and raised in New York City. I am a native Nuyorican or as I like to call myself, a "Latin from Manhattan". I have always been what some might call a “ham”. It all started during my 4th grade Christmas pageant, when I uttered the immortal line “gee grandpa!”

I’ve been hooked ever since.

I have been acting, singing and hamming it up since the 1980s! Over the years , I've done stand-up comedy, several Improv comedy showcases, a Cabaret showcase and both on-camera and voice-over work. If you're wondering why you've never heard of me, that's because I had to take a bit of a hiatus from showbiz. Yeah, I know, 20 years is a long rest, but hey, I was really, really tired.

Well, that's all for now. Thanks for taking the time to look at my site.
